does it ever end--
this sea of insanity?
not that I’m complaining,
nor protesting.
simply wondering…
where has the calm gone?

sometimes a high is better
when it hits you for no reason.
no drug works better
than good old fashioned
bliss.

if all the stars fell down
maybe we’d have cause
for worry.
but from where I lay
they seem to stay
the same.
not boring
just comfortable.

does it ever end?
everything keeps  moving.
but feeling
everything and nothing
all at once
tends to make one
dizzy.
please don’t fall.

sometimes
if you let it go
you might just create
some beautiful music.
feedback can sound better
than the notes that you’ve
envisioned.
My advice?
Be like a tidal wave.

if I keep on
keeping on
the way that I’ve been doing,
things may stay the same.
I guess I’d rather
let you hurt me
than hurt you.
ignorance?
no…
bliss.

does it ever end--
all this uncontrolled
uncertainty?
perhaps you should take this
peace
of my heart.
you seem to need it more than I.
just don’t break it,
my wish is not to be
the eye of the storm.

sometimes life
just isn’t vast enough for you
and sometimes it’s too small.
the beautiful naivety
that I see in his eyes
tells me that for him…
…the world fits perfectly.

if I kiss you goodbye
will you really go away?
if I sing a lullaby
will you catch some sleep?
intentions don’t create
situations.
under this same sky
we are united--
connected by hearts
instead of hands.
feel this sand
fall across your soul.
it is the universe of our past…
watch how easily it
blows away.

does it ever end?
not that I’m complaining,
simply wondering…
where has the calm gone?

This was inspired by a good friend and by Pearl Jam. What a great combination.
It's really about how everyone these days is stressing out and there are so few people who are just letting life sweep them along like a river. In the vast scheme the things that we stress about are so not important, this is life...we should be living it, not stressing.
Some of the lines in this poem are from a poem I started about the same friend ages ago but never finished. Everytime I'm around him I'm inspired to write.
The Pearl Jam inspiration so becuase of a song that this friend shared with me. It's called Man of the Hour and on the live version that we have there is some serious feedback in the middle of the song. It sounds beautiful. I had to write about it.
This poem was written while listening to Man of the Hour and remembering a wonderful and peaceful night. It did not matter that the things we were doing were insane...it was peaceful nonetheless. Beautiful moments in time like that night must be honored and kept close to our souls.
So this is for Afshin...
